In
1741, the Captain Thomas Skottowe, an scotish officer of the British Crown,
was taken prisoner at the battle of Fontenoy, and sent under house arrest to our
region . He fell in love with the mysterious Sologne and decided to buy a
property and to " create " the Muids on an area of 2000 hectares.
He had the central part of the castle built .
In 1826, his son Henri Thomas had the north wing and then the south wing of the
building built . In those days, people could often meet the Prince Murat (a
close friend of the family) in the Muids. Later the
priest L’Hermite wrote lots of his works, inspired by the the castle .
In 1886, the Maes family bought the property. It brought the
woodwork, had a part of the moat filled and planted rare species of trees around
the castle . The Maes family kept the property by legacy till 1983. That year
the Muids became an hotel restaurant for your pleasure. |
